Spontaneous

Coming out of Spontaneous with a smile on their faces is always a good thing. The kids were very happy to be done competing today. They can relax on their last day out here tomorrow. We are going to the International Festival tomorrow to meet the teams from away.

Odyssey of the Mind Column Structure problem

This was the problem that the team had to solve.

The problem is to design and build balsa wood columns that will function together to balance and support as much weight as possible. The columns must not be connected to each other in any way. The team will test its Column Structure by placing weights onto it. The team will add weight until its Column Structure breaks or time ends. Bonus score will be awarded for the number of columns used. The team will incorporate the testing of its columns in an original team-created performance.

So can you guess who this famous NBA player is, he went to Michigan State University and played for the LA Lakers.

Our competition day for our Long term problem

Well we competed today for our long term problem. The OM team did a wonderful job in their play and the structure held a good weight. I'm so proud of how well they have done this year. We have spontaneous tomorrow afternoon they are very excited about this. We also learned some interesting facts about Michigan Stat...e it's has a famous NBA player from here. Can you guess who?

Opening Ceremonies

We had Opening Ceremonies tonight it was fun, exciting, loud and really bright with everyone’s glowing things going at once. Lots of teams from around the world…Hong Kong, China, Poland, Japan, Germany, Untied States, and many more. It was really fun to see everyone march in as a team. We met this man on our way in to opening ceremonies. He was the coach of a balsa wood team and constructed his hat out all the teams broken columns. Very creative as all the Jefferson kids said.

Pin Trading

Pin trading is when you trade your pins from your state with other kids from other countries and other states. The kids are having a lot of fun trading for the pins they really like. The whole team has made many good trades and is excited for tomorrow to meet other kids to trade with. John making a trade with a kid from Michigan. Courteney, Emily, and Lucas trading with kids from China.

Cooling off at the pool

The kids loved the Olympic size pool. They said it was deep, big, crowded but it felt good to cool off. Lucas and John took their swim test in order to use the springboard and platforms to dive or jump off.

Hello from Michigan

We have had a great day here in sunny Michigan. We arrived around 1:45 this afternoon to just an amazing amount of kids from all over the world buzzing around Michigan State University. After getting settled into our rooms the kids and parents took a nice trip to the pool. Mrs. Peabody was off to a coaches meeting (she was happy to be in air conditioning.)
